koko also is the exclusive retailer of the timeless, hand crafted clothing and shoes designed by Marianne Kooimans.
This unique line of limited edition wearable art combines couture styling with one of a kind fabric and leather creations that cross-pollinate hand made silks with italian embroidery, metallic fish leathers with calf and lamb skin. Utilizing old world craft with modern lines and meticulously detailed finishes, the collection is a gem that you won't find anywhere else in the world.
But koko is more than that. It is the co creation of the husband and wife creative tornado of Steve Wood and Marianne Kooimans and an island of refuge, where the deep rivers of fashion, art and ideas flow, blending into magical possibilities. Drop by for a chat sometime.
Marianne Kooimans is a fabric dreamer, clothing and hand made shoe designer, artist and whirling dervish of non stop creative energy and ideas.
Born in the Netherlands and educated at the Rotterdam Art academy, she has designed and developed unique fabrics and clothing for over twenty five years.
Marianne has designed gowns for the Oscars, costumes for music and stage performers as well as award winning textiles. Her innovative work has been published in magazines and books world wide.
Along with her husband Steve Wood, Marianne is the co-creator of koko and their wunderkind daughter Oona.
Steve Wood is a painter, poet, fabric designer, gold leaf wizard, PHD in psychology, global explorer and world class weaver of stories and conversation.
Born in Moscow and raised in Washington state, driven by an insatiable curiosity, he has been on the move ever since.
His adventurous spirit and artistic eye has taken him around the world; Japan, Korea, Afghanistan, Iran, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, Thailand, Morocco, all of Europe and North and South America. Steve, Marianne and Oona now call Venice California, home.
His artworks have been exhibited around the world and are held in private and public collections.
When not in the store spinning tales or taking customers through the history of a garment or a shoe, you can find him body surfing the waves off Venice beach.
